HEY!

HEY!

Back when I was teaching web design to high school students, I developed a personal website (raquell.net). This was 1998 or 1999 so it was basic - a linked set of pages. One for favorite Bible verses, one for a photo gallery, and a couple others that I can’t remember but it was much like a Facebook page before Facebook existed lol

I did eventually join MySpace and develop a page, then Facebook and so on because they are free and definitely offered a broader sense of community. More folks were bound to run into your content and interact which inevitably got even more folks to join in. Seeing the numbers of folks on a platform can be encouraging and makes me think that there would be more conversation. But even as more folks joined it seems they just look but don’t always comment or share (publicly) and the ‘conversation’ is stalled.

I don’t have a solution for that. It also gives me pause that those free platforms can manage or use what I post in ways in which I’m not aware. So in response to those two points I figured I’d go back to where I started - a personal website - a place to offer content (most likely to fewer eyes) on my own terms. Hey 🗣
