Another FWRC in the books
What a blessing to get to help host another of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated’s Far Western Regional Conferences. It is a serious matter to dedicate your time and talent to service. I aspire to be of service and am inspired when I gather with others who have that same aspiration. A key function of a regional conference is to provide such a gathering and the 95th FWRC did just that.
Conference Prep:
Save the date. So much less stress making your mind up early to attend.
Choose a committee to serve on early (or accept a call to chair if asked)
A great way to gather with a smaller group of members who want to serve - inspiring each other
I was asked to chair the Souvenir Journal again. Having grown some, I was able to direct the committee members in getting the book completed and I was still able to fullfill other non-conference duties (like some chapter committee work, foundation work, and work ‘paycheck’ work 😅🙌🏾)
Conference Time:
Renewed my Financial Officer’s Certification along with my chapter treasurer and financial secretary. Was a treat to sit with the treasurer during the session 🩷 and got to see a member who used to be in our chapter.
Got to be part of the first FWRC Fascinating 50 which turned out to be SO much more than I expected along with another opportunity to get to meet sorority members I didn’t know before. It was nice to have the choice of good seats.
Enjoyed the Step Show even though the young ladies looked SO young - I mean there can’t be THAT many years between now and when I was there age in school 🤔🫠
Getting to see City Hall lit up in Pink and Green was a treat! As well as, the opportunity to visit the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for the first time - I must go back!
DL Hughley even gave a good comedy set and brought Cedric the Entertainer by too 🙌🏾
After sorority business (which will not be mentioned here 🙂↔️) there was a lovely awards reception and LA Chic After Party - still tired from that LOL
Honestly I was worn out and missed the closing ecumenical service and brunch but I will start planning now to take part in those next year when not hosting ☺️
